Accessibility on the Roku® platform

Roku  strives to provide an enjoyable streaming entertainment experience for  our users, including users with disabilities. Roku products include  features that enhance the accessibility of streaming entertainment  available on the Roku platform.

Accessibility features

Audio Guide

Audio  Guide provides an accessible entertainment experience for people with  visual impairments or blindness. Audio Guide is a text-to-speech screen  reader that assists customers with navigation of the Roku user interface  and onscreen menus. When activated, Audio Guide will read out text,  menus and other onscreen items.

Audio Guide can be turned on or off by pressing the Options button on  the Roku remote four times quickly. The Options button is located just  below the directional pad and at the right-hand side of the Roku remote.

Customers can also turn Audio Guide on or off within the  Accessibility category of the Settings menu. Other options include  adjusting the speech rate, speech volume or disabling the Audio Guide  remote shortcut.

Audio Guide is available on all Roku TV™ models in the US as well as  select Roku streaming players including Roku Ultra, Roku Premiere+, Roku  Premiere, Roku Express+, Roku Express, and Roku® Streaming Stick®. To  enable Audio Guide, your Roku device must be updated to Roku OS 7.5 or  later.

Audio Guide is available in US English only. If a language other than  English is selected, Audio Guide will be turned off. Audio Guide will  be disabled when using the Private Listening feature that is available  in the Roku mobile app for iOS® or Android™ for select Roku devices.

For more information, see the Audio Guide documentation.

Closed Captioning

Closed  captioning helps people who are d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing by displaying  text on the television screen to provide transcription of the audio  within a movie or TV show. Please note that the movie or TV show must  support closed captioning in order for the text to display on the  screen.

Closed captions can be turned on or off within the Accessibility category of the Settings menu.

For more information, see the closed captioning documentation.

Website

Roku  takes reasonable steps to make our website's content accessible and  user friendly to everyone. If you are having difficulty viewing or  navigating the content on this website, or notice any content, feature,  or functionality that you believe is not fully accessible to people with  disabilities, please contact us using the contact information provided  below and provide a description of the specific feature of the website  you feel is not fully accessible or a suggestion for improvement. We  appreciate your feedback and will consider it as we evaluate ways to  accommodate our customers and our overall accessibility policies.

Voice Search

With  the free Roku mobile app for iOS® or Android™, you can use your voice  to search for content. Tap the Voice button, speak out loud what you’re  looking for, and receive comprehensive results across top channels. You  can search for entertainment by title, actor or director.

Voice search is also available on select Roku player remote controls including Roku Ultra, Roku 4 and Roku 3.

For more information, see the voice search documentation and the Roku mobile app documentation.
